The short version: barely any cookies.

1. What is a cookie?

A "cookie" is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to store and send back on the next visit. Modern websites also use related technologies like localStorage and sessionStorage, which behave similarly. We use the word "cookies" here to cover all of these, as required by the Belgian Code of Economic Law and the e-Privacy Directive (2002/58/EC, as amended).

2. Cookies we use right now

This is the complete list of items gotrust.be currently writes to your browser:

NameTypeCategoryDurationPurpose
gt_consent_v1 localStorage Strictly necessary Until you clear browser storage Remembering your cookie-banner choice so we don't ask on every page load. Contains { necessary, analytics, ts, v } as JSON.

That is the entire list, today. No analytics, no advertising, no fingerprinting. Strictly necessary cookies are legally exempt from prior consent (Art. 129 §1, 2° of the Belgian Code of Economic Law).

3. Cookies that may be enabled with your consent

If, and only if, you click Accept all in the cookie banner, we may at some point in the future enable a self-hosted, privacy-friendly analytics tool (such as Plausible or Umami) running on European infrastructure. Should we ever do so, this table will be updated before any such cookie is set, and you can switch the choice off again via the Cookie preferences link in the footer.

NameTypeCategoryDurationPurpose
(none active today) Analytics Reserved for a future privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics tool. Off until you explicitly opt in.

4. Cookies we will never use

5. Changing your choice

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time. Two ways:

  1. Click Cookie preferences in the footer (or right here).
  2. Clear your browser's storage for gotrust.be. We will ask you again on your next visit.

6. Third-party services we load on the public site

For full transparency, here are the external resources the homepage requests, and whether they can set a cookie on your browser:

ServiceWhyCookies set?
Google Fonts Loading the Bricolage Grotesque, Hanken Grotesk and JetBrains Mono webfonts No cookies. Google states the Fonts service does not set cookies. We do not embed any Google analytics or ads code.

We are working on a self-hosted fonts solution to remove even this single third-party call. Until then, your IP is briefly visible to Google as part of the font request. If that bothers you, see Google's own Fonts privacy FAQ.

7. Legal basis

The strictly-necessary gt_consent_v1 entry is exempt from prior consent under Art. 129 §1, 2° of the Belgian Code of Economic Law (transposing Art. 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, as amended). All other cookie categories require your explicit, freely given, informed and unambiguous consent before being activated, which we obtain via the banner.
